Customer story: RTE

With a network of 100,000 km in France, RTE is the largest electricity transmission system operator in Europe.

  • "Thanks to Terra3D's skills in automatic 3D analysis,
we divide the processing time by 10, which generates equally significant gains."

RTE - Head of Digital Imaging
R&D Department - Asset Management Program
  • "Terra3D support was very precious during the industrialization phase. We had to ensure that the algorithms would work efficiently on a target volume of 100,000 km."

RTE, the French electricity transmission system operator, requires a complete inventory of their infrastructures for a better management of the network. In particular, to perform tasks such as:

  • Asset management
  • Vegetation monitoring
  • Damage identification
  • Predictive maintenance, etc.

Terra3D and RTE, have been working together since 2017 in order to optimize these tasks by automatic processing of 3D point clouds from powerlines environments.

In 2019, both companies signed a partnership to co-develop, to industrialize and to commercialize the T3D Powerlines solution. This automated solution is currently applied to the whole French network composed of 100,000 km.

« The effectiveness of Terra3D allowed us to meet challenges that seemed impossible to us. Indeed, in addition to their indisputable skills in automatic 3D point cloud analysis, their interest in our project has made it possible to develop a dedicated solution, unlike what the competition (mainly based on adaptations of existing software) could offer us.
We were thus able to divide the manual processing times by 10, which obviously generates equally significant gains. »

« The support of Terra3D was very precious during the industrialization phase of the solution validated beforehand with the R&D team at RTE. We had to ensure that the algorithms that worked on a small volume of data would be as efficient on a target volume of around 100,000 km of lines to be processed. In this context, the partnership between RTE and Terra3D overcame the pitfalls encountered during this phase and allowed the solution to go into production on time by the project. »
